Privacy policy

How Daily Cruncher collects, uses, and shares information when you visit our website.

1. Who we are

This privacy policy applies to Daily Cruncher (“we”, “us”, or “our”), accessible at https://www.dailycruncher.com (the “Site”). The data controller for the personal data described below is Daily Cruncher.

2. Information we collect

  • Server logs. Our hosting provider records your IP address, user agent, referrer, and request path for every page view. These logs are used for security and to keep the Site running.
  • Our own page-view statistics. When you load a page, our server records the page address, the referring page, a two-letter country code supplied by our hosting provider, whether the request appears to come from an automated bot, and the time. It also stores a pseudonymous visitor identifier: a keyed hash of your IP address and browser user agent that changes every day, so a visitor can be counted once per day without being recognized from one day to the next. These records do not contain your IP address or user agent, and no cookie is set for them. We use them only to produce aggregate traffic statistics.
  • Google Analytics 4. We use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use the Site. It collects the pages you view and for how long, how you arrived (for example the referring site), your approximate location (country, region and city, derived from your IP address), your device, browser and operating system type, screen size and language, and interactions such as scrolling and clicks on outbound links. See section 4 for its cookies and section 7 for how long the data is kept.
  • Email and form submissions. If you contact us or submit our advertising inquiry form, we retain your name, email address, and message so we can respond to you. For contact and advertising-inquiry messages we also record the IP address and browser user agent they were sent from, to prevent spam and abuse.
  • Advertising data. We use Google AdSense to show ads on the Site. Google and its partners may collect information through cookies, web beacons, IP addresses and similar technologies. See the “Advertising” section below.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • operate, secure, and improve the Site;
  • respond to your inquiries and correspondence;
  • understand aggregate traffic patterns and improve our content (Google Analytics and our own page-view statistics);
  • display advertising that supports the Site;
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms of use.

Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Consent for Google Analytics cookies and for advertising cookies, including personalized ads. You can withdraw consent at any time; withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before it.
  • Legitimate interests for running and securing the Site (server logs), our cookieless page-view statistics, preventing spam, and replying to messages you send us. You can object to this processing (see section 8).
  • Legal obligation where we must keep or disclose information by law.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. The Site itself sets a single, strictly necessary session cookie (dc_admin_session) only when an administrator signs in to the Site dashboard; it is not used for tracking visitors. Your cookie-banner choice is remembered as dc_consent in your browser’s local storage.

Google Analytics uses the cookies _ga (distinguishes browsers) and _ga_<ID> (keeps session state), each of which expires after two years. Google’s advertising services use their own cookies, described in the “Advertising” section. We ask for your consent through our cookie banner and pass your choice to Google using Google Consent Mode: until you choose “Accept all”, Google Analytics does not set or read its cookies. Google may still receive limited, cookieless signals (for example that a page was loaded, the time, your browser type and your consent choice) that are not linked to a cookie identifier.

You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing site data in your browser and choosing “Decline non-essential” when the banner reappears. You can also block Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. For more detail, see our Cookie policy.

5. Advertising

The Site uses third-party advertising companies, including Google, to serve ads when you visit. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you.

Third parties, including Google, may place and read cookies on your browser, or use web beacons or IP addresses, to collect information as a result of ad serving on the Site. If you choose “Decline non-essential” on our cookie banner, we tell Google that you have not consented to advertising cookies or personalized ads.

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on the Site. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to the Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • Alternatively, users can opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
  • In the EEA and UK, you can also manage interest-based advertising from participating companies at www.youronlinechoices.eu.

6. How we share information

We do not sell your personal data for money. We share information only with service providers that help us operate the Site (hosting, database, email delivery, Google Analytics, and advertising partners such as Google AdSense), and only to the extent necessary for them to perform their function. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Daily Cruncher, our users, or the public.

7. Data retention

  • Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for up to 90 days.
  • Our page-view statistics are not currently deleted on a fixed schedule. They contain no IP addresses, user agents or cookie identifiers, and the daily visitor identifier cannot be linked from one day to the next.
  • Google Analytics keeps user- and event-level data for no longer than 14 months, after which Google deletes it automatically. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses; it uses them to derive your approximate location and then discards them.
  • Email and form submissions are kept for as long as needed to respond to your inquiry and meet our legal and accounting obligations.
  • Advertising data collected by Google and its partners is kept under their own policies.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights over your personal data. Email webmaster@dailycruncher.com with the subject line PRIVACY REQUEST to make a request. We respond within 30 days, and may need to verify your identity first.

  • EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR). You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your personal data, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
  • California (CCPA, as amended by the CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to delete it; to correct it; to opt out of its “sale” or “sharing”; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not collect sensitive personal information. Allowing Google’s advertising cookies for personalized ads may count as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. To opt out, choose “Decline non-essential” on our cookie banner (clear this site’s data to see it again), or turn off personalized ads in Google Ads Settings. You may also make a request through an authorized agent.

9. Children’s privacy

The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your data during transfer.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site.
